The Association of Neighbourhood Houses of BC (ANHBC) builds healthy and engaged neighbourhoods by connecting people and strengthening their capacity to create change. Our vision, mission and values guide the work of our nine neighbourhood houses and outdoor centre.

Our collective values and principles are the foundation of our collective transformation:

As a collective, we learn through being present, showing up authentically and centering the undervoiced. We are not afraid of difficult conversations or differing opinions. Together we defy the constraints of power, and let love and compassion guide us.

We honour the interconnections of all things around us, including the land and water, plants, creatures and people that call this place home. We are committed to working collaboratively with our neighbours, our teams and our partners to ensure supportive, brave and creative spaces where we can learn, grow and share our gifts with each other. From these connections, we nurture belonging.

Together, we are courageous in our commitment to unraveling the threads of colonization, utilizing a decolonizing lens, mirrored with respect and caring – centering relationships throughout our work.

We recognize that caring for Land, People and Place is our shared responsibility. Through acts of reciprocity, this is woven through all of our practices and learning.

We commit to ensuring an ethical practice that includes an anti-oppressive approach, valuing our differences, while recognizing integrity as the thread that connects us all in our efforts to ensure a just and equitable society. 

These values & principles nourish the rest of the work, as well as ground us in our collective purpose. Every direction, goal and action will consider our values and principles while planning and making decisions for the organization.
